harmed by hands and words pushed into silence by the weight of others the world sharpens its edges against my softness mockery hums like a song I cannot escape but I will not retaliate with the same tools anger does not repair the cracks in my spirit revenge cannot return the kindness stolen from me these paths lead only to deeper wounds faith is my refuge when all else crumbles a quiet place where bitterness cannot root I hand over my pain to the unseen trusting that justice does not belong to me their voices may rise like storms but I will not be their echo instead, I wait in the stillness letting peace grow where hurt once thrived each step forward is not easy but I walk with faith as my strength letting love and forgiveness guide my path while God redeems what was lost no one is greater or lesser in their pain every one of us, a part of the same existence I will scatter seeds of compassion instead of thorns so others may find hope, where darkness lingers my scars are not trophies of defeat they are reminders of survival a silent testament to a heart that chose grace and found a way to keep beating the weight of justice is not mine to carry I leave it in the hands of the eternal while I continue forward unburdened becoming the person I was always meant to be Psalm 19:14 "May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."

  • Pre-Christmas Follow Up

It has been busy over the last four days since I picked up the Christmas tree someone was giving away. The meet up on Friday was good, even though there was construction and I missed the turn into the post office, I didn't panic! I learned where the post office is in my town, however, I typically use the station in the next town over because it is three miles closer to my house. While I was there, I texted someone that was interested in a crockpot I was selling, unfortunately they didn't respond. When the person pulled up with the tree, I could hardly contain my excitement, but I tried to respect her time and space. When I got home, I was mentally exhausted by the outing, but I wanted to set it up! It is pre-lit, came in three sections, and a stand. She also gave me a bag of ornaments and decorations. I was still on the fence about going through my ornaments that I have amassed over the last 40 plus years. Once I set up the tree, I just sat there and admired it, thanking God for making this happen. I am so grateful that this kind soul decided to gift this tree instead of bringing it to a thrift store or throwing it away. I kept thinking of what a neighbor told me about something else, "just do a little at a time," so I thought instead of feeling overwhelmed with decorating it, I would just wait until Saturday! As I sat there admiring the tree during the afternoon, I decided the least I could do is look at the bag she had sent along. I took each ornament out one by one, and I couldn't believe the beautiful things she had gifted me. I started by attaching a small shiny foil wreath to my front screen door. I had no idea my front door was metal until I tried to put a push pin in it, so that is why I chose the screen door. Looking at the bright red, gold, and green ball ornaments, I decided that this was the fresh start I needed! There is no doubt in my mind these were heaven sent, and I couldn't wait to decorate. The last post I wrote about Christmas, I chose a cover photo (below left) that took over thirty minutes of looking for something that resonated with me. As I was putting the balls on the tree (below right), I realized these were so similar to the ornaments in the picture I chose! These were different than what I ever had, and I thought they were really pretty. I didn't think I would actually have any like those in the picture, but they were peaceful! After these were distributed best that I could, I found an angel holding a book. Considering my thoughts on angels, which may be a post in the future,, and my middle name is Archangelina, I just loved it's simplicity and shine. It really is inspirational. The next ornament I took out of the bag was a church! I took my drill and put some holes to poke lights into it, and some small holes to make it look like the church is open. That turn out to be a fun activity! I took the drill out of the bag, attached the battery, selected the drill bit, drilled a hole, took the battery off, put the drill and bit away, and went in to try it out. I would go through this same procedure four more times. I don't know why I just didn't leave the drill out until I was done, but I didn't. It came out perfectly! I continued to pull out the ornaments, a few I decided not to use, but I hope to gift them to someone at the flea market this coming Saturday. Then, the ornament I pulled out of the bag was so reassuring that this tree and ornaments were an answer to prayer. It was a solitary gold drum, that sparkled with color in the light. Travis, my son that passed away, was a drummer, and we played, "Little Drummer Boy" at his funeral. When looking for ornaments, she could have not possibly known how special this would be to me. However, God knew what I needed. It also gave me clarity on what to do with the ornaments from years past— pack them up and send them to my boys! It has been unusually cold, and I wondered if my two light blankets would be enough to keep me warm. In addition, I have continued going outside for thirty minutes, and it is getting easier when I want to go somewhere, to go without too much internal debating. I sorted the ornaments by child, and found just enough tissue paper, and bubble wrap to make a nice package for each of them. Travis' ornaments, I repacked and stored. I didn't have any boxes, so I had to get creative. I remembered seeing a cardboard box in one of the bins I haven't unpacked yet. I had no idea what was inside, and I didn't realize I had never opened it. Another problem solved, it was a blanket—a twitch blanket! I didn't recall ordering it, so I looked on Amazon, and I had ordered it 27 December 2019. According to the invoice, I earned a gift card at work, along with my employee discount, to pay for it. At least now if I get too cold, I have another blanket! I can't wait to start streaming again, but for now I can be comfy! How great is God! With the box from the blanket, I constructed two boxes. I looked online to see which would be cheaper, UPS or the Postal Service. As I was trying finishing packing the boxes, I got a notification to pick up groceries from Walmart. A minute later, the woman who wanted the crockpot messaged me—she was in the area. We decided to meet at the pharmacy near my house and Walmart in only five minutes! The boxes of ornaments would have to wait! She was right on time! She gave me the $10 and I gave her one of my cards. She had a really kind presence, and it took away the anxiety of meeting. It was a very long wait at Walmart, but I wasn't too bothered. Once I got home, it was back to the ornaments! I had another box to return to Amazon, so I decided to use UPS. Wrong move. When I got there, it was really crowded, the store did not have internet, and could only take cash. I wanted to find out how much the boxes would cost to ship, and I would come back later. It was frustrating because the agent didn't understand when I mentioned a flat rate, I had to pull it up on my phone to show him. I had no idea that the UPS store was not UPS—they use the same logo! Even though UPS has a simple rate, and it was affordable, the UPS store was more than double. I kept calm and decided to go to the post office down the road. I was pretty happy how well I handled the chaos of the UPS Store, so on the way to the post office, the $10 crockpot money went to a good cause—at least I prayed it did. Arriving at the post office, I quickly became overwhelmed when there were so many options. I didn't even have the kids names or addresses on the boxes because I thought they were going to go UPS. I saw boxes that were free to use, and thought about using them, but it was hard to decide because I couldn't find the shipping cost for them. I started walking around looking on the walls, then I finally saw the prices, about the same time another customer asked me if she could help me find something. We started chatting, as I often do, and we had a really nice conversation.  I wasn't sure if I was supposed to write their names on the boxes, or if there was a form. As we continued to chat, I found a pen and wrote the boys names and addresses best I could, but it wasn't working to well because of the tape on the box. When I got finished, we parted ways, each expressing how our day was better meeting each other and talking. It was soon my turn at the counter! The one agent, looked at me, said he would be back in a minute, but then the other agent became available—she was great! She only has five years left until retirement, and I could really empathize with her, as I used to work at the post office. We had a nice chat. She told me I needed my address on the front, instead of the back. Thankfully, she offered her marker that would write over the tape! During checkout, I was even able to get the money I will need to sell at the flea market on Saturday. Some people can instinctively calm anxiety, whereas others can stir up anxiety! We finished our business, and she walked out with me, turn and said no regrets! I responded that I never have regrets—which I don't—she said good! I headed home really proud of my 90 minute outing today! Over the last four days, I have had face to face interactions with about fifteen people! It is still a challenge to go outside each day, but I can really see the progress I am making. As I sit back, look at the lights on the tree, and reflect on this past week, I know there is only one part missing in my life. I hope the kids enjoy the nostalgia the ornaments are sure to bring—expected to arrive in 3 - 5 days, according to the post office! Matthew 6:8 "Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

  • Shattered Illusions: Unmasking Narcissism

Narcissism can be considered a personality disorder, specifically Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), which is a recognized mental health condition. People with NPD often have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. They may also have difficulty with relationships due to their self-centered behavior, and their emotional responses can be extreme or manipulative. Additionally, mental health conditions are complex, the intensity, frequency, and impact of these traits that matter, and understanding them requires professional evaluation. However, a person can be described as having narcissistic traits if they display certain behaviors commonly associated with narcissism, such as a strong need for admiration, a lack of empathy, a need for validation, self-centeredness, manipulative behavior, or a sense of entitlement. It is important to note that not everyone who displays narcissistic traits has NPD. Narcissism exists on a spectrum, and some people may show narcissistic tendencies and exhibit narcissistic behaviors in certain situations without meeting the full criteria for a clinical diagnosis. Common Narcissistic Behaviors in Relationships : Love bombing : Overwhelms the partner with excessive affection, compliments, and gestures early in the relationship to gain control and manipulate. Jealousy and control : May display possessiveness or control over their partner’s actions, friendships, or even appearance. Emotional manipulation : Uses guilt, fear, or shame to control their partner’s emotions and actions. Lack of empathy : Dismisses or disregards the feelings, needs, or concerns of their partner. Constant need for admiration : Seeks excessive validation and praise from their partner, expecting constant attention and affirmation. Gaslighting : Manipulates or denies the partner's reality to make them doubt their own perceptions or memories. Self-centeredness : Focuses primarily on their own needs and desires, without consideration for their partner's feelings or needs. Belittling or demeaning the partner : Criticizes or undermines the partner’s self-worth or achievements to maintain a sense of superiority. Blaming others : Refuses to take responsibility for their own actions, blaming their partner or others for any problems or issues in the relationship. Lack of emotional support : Rarely provides emotional support to the partner but expects it when they are in need. Isolation : May try to isolate their partner from friends, family, or support networks to increase dependence on them. Passive-aggressive behavior : Uses indirect ways of expressing anger or dissatisfaction, such as silent treatment or sarcasm. These behaviors often create an unhealthy dynamic in relationships, as the narcissist tends to prioritize their own needs and feelings over the well-being of their partner. If you are dealing with someone who exhibits narcissistic behavior, especially in a relationship context, it can be incredibly challenging and emotionally draining. The constant cycle of love-bombing followed by devaluation can make you question your own worth, leaving you emotionally attached despite the pain. The connection, however toxic, can feel familiar, and breaking away often feels like losing a part of yourself. Thinking about sharing this with someone exhibiting narcissistic traits along with specific examples? Don't bother! A narcissist would likely avoid taking any responsibility or reflecting on their own behaviors. Their response would likely center on protecting their self-image, deflecting blame, and trying to turn the situation around to make it seem like you're the one with the problem. They may downplay your feelings or even suggest you're the one in the wrong, and you are the narcissist, all in an effort to maintain control and avoid any confrontation about their own toxic behaviors. A Personal Encounter This response is exactly what happened when I tried to share my observations with someone exhibiting narcissistic traits. I am sharing this personal story because it helps me let it go, and I think others may be able to relate and find some kind of inspiration from reading it. I am fully disclosing these emails for transparency and context. I will be offering my thoughts on how his emails continued to show narcissistic behavior. Our Email Exchange While we were in a relationship, I sent him a list with specific examples, praying he would recognize the problem and fix it. He didn't and instead chose to end the relationship. A year after he broke off our engagement, and shortly after he reached out to me, I shared a bible verse with him, writing about it resonating with me and my curiosity. The verse helped explain that my curiosity was about understanding and gaining knowledge. My Original Message "While researching for my next GoFundMe update, I came across a verse that instantly made me think about our conversations and the challenges we faced around communication. The verse is Proverbs 18:15: "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out." This verse highlights how valuable it is to seek understanding and ask questions. I believe that true wisdom comes from being open to learning and listening, even when it means questioning things to gain a deeper understanding. I wanted to share this thought with you because it represents how I view the importance of seeking clarity and understanding. I am sorry if my questions were frustrating; my intention was always to understand better. I hope this offers a perspective on my curious nature and the value I place on seeking knowledge and understanding." His response He wrote back completely dismissing everything I had written: "I really don't want to remember any of it, it frustrates me just having to think back to that time, a time with so much hopes and dreams only to be quenched a big lack of what really was this relationship about and wanting all this to come to fruition but plainly seeing one of us would let go long enough to find solace and comfort else where other than in the relationship, it feels like it was all a big waste of time." My response I was confused and wrote back asking him to clarify what he meant when he wrote, ""but plainly seeing one of us would let go long enough to find solace and comfort else where other than in the relationship" What do you mean? Did you turn to something or someone else and that is why you stopped trying?" His response NO! YOU STOPPED TRYING, YOU WOULD BLOCK ME ON DISCORD, YOU WOULD UNFRIEND ME ON FACEBOOK, BUT IM THE NARCISSIST REMEMBER, I MANIPULATE OTHERS, I DESTROY RELATIONSHIPS AND I MOVE ON AFTER DOING SO. I BECAME A BITTER MAN, BUT I WAS SHOWN PITY, PITY FROM A SISTER WHO KNOWS HER BROTHER AND KNOWS MY HEART AND AM FAR FROM THE THINGS KM ACCUSED OF. SHE WAS MY SOLACE AND COMFORT, SHE LIFTED AND RAISED ME UP AGAIN. NEVER TO FALL AGAIN. My thoughts His response to my confusion was a textbook example of narcissistic behavior. Rather than addressing my direct question, he deflects all blame onto me, turning the situation around to make me feel responsible for everything that went wrong. Narcissists often use this tactic to avoid accountability for their own actions. He claims that I stopped trying, yet he offers no examples to support this and ignores how his own actions may have contributed to the breakdown of our relationship. His statement, "YOU STOPPED TRYING, YOU WOULD BLOCK ME ON DISCORD, YOU WOULD UNFRIEND ME ON FACEBOOK," is a classic example of a narcissist shifting blame. He completely overlooks the fact that blocking him was my response to his actions or an effort to prevent further escalation. He refuses to acknowledge the emotional toll his behavior may have taken on me, instead casting me as the villain. This is a common tactic to protect their fragile ego by projecting their faults onto others. When he brings up his sister as his source of solace and comfort, it adds another layer of manipulation. By invoking her, he's using an external source of support to justify his actions and further distance himself from responsibility. Narcissists often seek validation from those who are close to them, especially when they're attempting to deflect the negative perception others may have of them. This shields the narcissist from confronting their actions or taking responsibility, as they are reassured that they are the victim. It's a way of reaffirming their self-image and avoiding the reality of their behavior. His response doesn’t show any genuine self-awareness or growth. Instead, it reaffirms the narcissistic tendencies of deflection, blame-shifting, and a lack of empathy for my side of the story. By offering the narcissist solace instead of addressing the root cause of the conflict, the sister disregards the hurtful impact of his actions. It’s all about him protecting his image and refusing to take any real responsibility for what happened. Another message : While I was still trying to comprehend the entirety of the message, he sent me another short message referring to my original email and told me my take on the bible verse was wrong and how the conversation unfolded follows. " And by the way the heart of the discerning acquires knowledge is Godly knowledge not ones own question or reasoning but the acquirement of spiritual knowledge" My response : I’ve been thinking about your comment regarding Proverbs 18:15, where you said, "the heart of the discerning acquires knowledge" refers only to Godly knowledge and not to one's own questioning or reasoning. While I respect that this is your interpretation, I do not believe you, or anyone, has the right to tell me how God wants me to interpret scripture. My relationship with God is personal, and my interpretation of His word is based on my own understanding and connection with Him. Everyone’s journey with scripture is different, and no one should impose their perspective as the only valid one. By insisting that your interpretation is the correct one, you disregard my spiritual growth and personal understanding. That kind of behavior comes across as narcissistic—dismissing my thoughts and centering your experience as superior. My view of faith is about seeking wisdom, understanding, and spiritual growth, and I choose to engage with scripture in a way that speaks to me. Humility in spiritual matters is important, and there should always be room for personal reflection and respectful discussion. Your rigid view doesn’t align with how I approach my relationship with God, and I think it’s important to make that clear. His response: "Ohh you've never had a problem making anything clear through out the entire relationship, and get over yourself with your self evaluation of me being narcissistic, I hate that word. You will never have a chance to call me that again. I've had enough of this conversation. Leave me alone." My thoughts: This response was very telling and completely fitting for someone with narcissistic traits. The deflection of blame, refusal to take responsibility, and shutting down the conversation were all typical behaviors I have come to recognize in narcissists. It also showed the lack of empathy for my feelings and the desire to control how he was perceived. His use of "get over yourself" and "you will never have a chance to call me that again" indicated an effort to maintain dominance and shut down any further discussion about his behavior, which is common with narcissists. It was clear that he was avoiding accountability, trying to protect his fragile self-image, and ensuring that the focus remained on me rather than on his actions. His response was all about control, dismissing my concerns, and invalidating my experience. Narcissists often react this way when confronted with their toxic behaviors—deflecting, denying, and avoiding any kind of self-reflection. A Surface-Level Apology When he sent this last message in this exchange three hours later saying, "I'm sorry Linda for my harsh responses please forgive me," it may have seemed like a step toward accountability. However, this kind of apology from someone with narcissistic traits is often more about relieving their own discomfort than truly acknowledging the harm they've caused. Narcissists can apologize, but the apology is usually surface-level and doesn't come with the intention of making real amends or changing their behavior. In this case, while he might have acknowledged his harsh responses, the apology doesn't address the underlying issues or take responsibility for his actions. It feels more like a way to end the conflict without addressing the deeper problem. A true apology from someone who wants to change would be accompanied by efforts to understand why their behavior hurt me and a genuine desire to change their actions moving forward, not just to placate me in the moment. Conclusion Maybe someone can shed a different light on the exchange, and I would be happy to consider your thoughts. I hope you will share your own stories involving narcissists and those that exhibit narcissistic behaviors. I didn't have experience with narcissism until I met him. Maybe this is the lesson God wanted me to learn by sending a man with many wonderful qualities, all the traits I asked for—God threw narcissism in for free! Do not wait for a narcissist to get help or change, because true change requires self-awareness and a willingness to acknowledge their flaws, which is something most narcissists lack—ultimately, they are unlikely to seek help or change unless they genuinely want to, and that often never happens. Setting boundaries and seeking support from a therapist can help you protect your mental health. • reflections of a hypocrite

it is a common experience to encounter hypocrites who talk about their values a voice full of integrity inclusion for all—exclusion for none words often contradicting their actions this behavior can be subtle or glaring it is only when you see both sides that it leaves a lasting impression they speak of truths they do not know holding up mirrors to others while their own reflections are shattered cracked by words they cannot live by they judge with eyes closed tight as if their hands are clean— but their fingerprints remain a trail of contradictions filling the air with deceit in one breath they preach of love in the next they sow discord and the world watches too tired to ask why the silence weighs heavier than the words some use masks for cover but some wear theirs so long they forget how to breathe beneath it and we the witnesses are left to wonder— do they believe their own lies or simply think we do they claim to stand for what is right yet crumble when no one is watching their principles are like fragile glass easily shattered never strong enough to hold the weight of their own contradictions they wear righteousness like a crown but it slips and it reveals the selfish hands that built it in their eyes others are the problem but the mirror only reflects what they refuse to face the truth is a quiet thing often ignored but it hums in the background louder than their polished words waiting for the day when it will break through and the mask will fall This poem is not meant to be harsh or condemning—it is more of an observation of hypocrisy and how it plays out in actions and words. It reflects the contrast between what people say and what they do. My intent is to reveal the truth behind the masks, not passing judgment on the individuals themselves. My observations often play in my head—over and over—like a movie that is on loop, usually reflecting on my own behavior. I acknowledge my own imperfections, and if I write about something I notice, it is either to make sense of it in my own mind, to educate others or to promote growth and change. This poem is a commentary on human behavior, showing how some people present themselves as virtuous but fail to live by their own standards. It is about calling out a pattern of behavior, not attacking any one person. If this poem resonates with you, or if you have reflections or poems you would like to share, feel free to send in a submission or get in touch . I would love to hear from you. Matthew 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

  • quiet corners of love

a gift arrives from a distance, neither asked for nor expected its value measured not only in worth, but in what it stirs within what was already written, a quiet gesture wrapped in meaning a token that warms and wounds, it lands in my email like a whisper not of love but of something close, with it I move toward the light a step forward into the new year, practical and necessary a spark in the dark of what I need, yet my heart knows its own language unspoken syllables held tight because love unreturned must rest I must let it sleep, however, the gift speaks louder than words but still falls short of the fullness of what my heart once hoped to hold it is the future that I need to let in, sadly leaving pieces behind shadows of what could have been, quietly forced into memory the gift lingers in my mind as both a tether and a release its meaning is not totally understood, its hold, a deep grasp each step forward feels lighter, yet carries more weight a strange paradox of healing and the ache of what is lost with every breath I remind myself to honor what was given to cherish the intent even as the heart learns to be still the year unfolds in its own rhythm and I walk with the knowledge that some gifts are so powerful, the impact immeasurable. I look at it thankfully, but knowing it offers more than it says a push toward stability a reminder of what still aches this help will see me through a season of change and resolve yet my heart trips on the edge of what once felt so close I cannot give what is not wanted, so I gather it all inside folding love into quiet corners where it lingers, unanswered the gift does not bridge the gap, but it carries me forward as days go by, I take a deep breath, and close my eyes. I wrap myself in gratitude letting its warmth soften the ache but even as the gift sustains, its shadow whispers of absence the heart, though quiet, still beats against walls it never wanted to build holding back all it longs to give, for love unreturned remains untold this gift becomes a strange comfort both a blessing and a wound a step forward on solid ground while the soul still treads water and so I thank what has been given, but sit with what it cannot heal the year begins with strength renewed yet the emptiness still lingers. Psalm 27:14 "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."

  • faith, gratitude, hope

this year stripped away essentials, leaving me to adapt I continued standing, with a heart full of new abundance every loss replaced with hope so vast it filled the cracks clinging on to life as the weight of the world pressed down voices rose in the quiet when I had no strength to speak hands reached out when the load seemed unbearable their gifts became lifelines, their presence a quiet balm I walked forward with gratitude etched in every step faith was the thread I held as the world frayed at the edges hope the small ember that shielded me against storms each sacrifice became a lesson, each trial a prayer and my spirit found strength when I thought it was gone as the new year approaches I stand taller, my heart open wide the road ahead glimmers not with certainty, but with promise what I lost in the darkness pales against what I gained and I carry the love of those who lifted me through to light this year has forged me into something stronger, yet flexible a vessel not of despair but of boundless gratitude and pride each new day a reminder of grace unearned yet freely given and the beauty of a hope that refuses to fade into the night and now the horizon calls with a quiet voice of renewal its light stretching over the edges of doubt and uncertainty inviting me to step forward into the unknown not with fear but with courage shaped by the past destined for the future with hopes that the new year breathes its first moments softly each one a chance to begin again, to walk a new path to weave faith into every action and to let hope bloom trusting that goodness and kindness waits beyond the bend what lies ahead may not be easy but it holds the promise of discovery growth born from resilience and joy carved from the simple acts of living every kindness shown to me this year becomes a seed I carry forward to scatter where others now struggle, to repay the love given to me as the days unfold I choose to greet them with openness to let my heart remain soft despite its scars of the past to see not just what I have endured but what I have overcome to walk with gratitude lighting the way, with faith as my only guide Romans 5:3-4 "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

All votes are anonymous! Poll ended Welcome signs have a long history, symbolizing hospitality and warmth at the entrances of homes. They are thought to have originated in medieval Europe, where symbols on doorways signified good fortune or protection. Over time, these symbols evolved into words of welcome as literacy increased, inviting travelers and friends into one's space. Today, welcome signs reflect personal style as much as tradition, with options ranging from classic greetings to custom designs, each offering a unique way to say, "You’re invited in." • Bargains and Banter: The Price of a Good Story

This weekend, I took part in the community yard sale—my first time since moving in three and a half years ago. Friday was reserved for residents, with shopping open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday, the sale opened up to the public. Over the last week or more, I was able to unpack some of the boxes that have been sitting since I moved in. I knew it would be mentally difficult, but the accomplishment would be worth the pain. I thought there might be a bigger crowd, but I was glad to meet everyone who stopped by whether they came by on-foot, golf cart, car or truck. I was able to meet another close neighbor and learn about the addition they built on their house. I marveled at the craftsmanship, and how it blends in seamlessly. It was also nice to participate along with my neighbors on either side. I didn’t see as much traffic as anticipated, but the experience was still a good step in the right direction. Even though the money is much needed, and I am thankful I sold enough to cover next week's shortage, the real reward was in the interactions as well as the stories other shared with me. I can and will talk people's ears off, unintentionally, of course! I listened intently as a woman told me she just moved into the Ocala National Forest, I would have loved to hear more about her journey. I sold a trivia game to a couple that was going to participate in a game night, but didn't have a lot of board game knowledge. I was so happy someone wanted the free personal care items that were opened, not good enough to sell, but too good to throw away. A woman bought a set of dominoes from me, but one domino was left behind. I was grateful she saw my post about the fallen domino and came to pick it up. I completely messed up by inviting her in the house to come through to the garage which I thought the door was still up, it wasn't. I didn't get too flustered, thanks to her recommending exiting through the small door in my garage. This is how the universe should run, but rarely does. I already attached meaning to the double-four domino. There was also a group of ladies that were really supportive. When I handed them each one of my cards and explained my new blog site—a lot of mental health information. Right now, I explained, it is a lot about my journey, but I hope my posts will inspire and empower others to share their own stories. It was quite overwhelming talking to so many at once, but I feel like i did well powering through it. A therapist in this group volunteered to check on the availability of a free program in her community that she feels would benefit me. After a few laughs, I wished them a wonderful day, and got ready to welcome others. As people came and went, it became more about the connection and even less about the money. One woman was looking at two beach towels. The conversation ended in a sale, but went like this when she asked, "how much are the towels?" I replied, "three dollars," and she responded, "one dollar each?" I clarified, "No, three dollars each," She laughed, paid three dollars, took both towels, and joked, "I even have my hearing aids in." Several things crossed my mind after she left. Intrusive thoughts were trying to tell me I was scammed out of three dollars, but in my heart, I know I wasn't. Secondly, I don't know if in the moment, I didn't have the courage to speak up and say, "Sorry, those are three dollars each ," or if I just instantly had empathy for her. I'm really happy thinking each time she uses the towels at the pool, she will smile—knowing she got a good deal. Many people had arm, leg, knee, foot, and ankle braces. I would typically ask what happened or why they had a brace, but I made a concerted effort to hold back and not ask too many questions. Some walked with canes and others had walkers. I carried an item out to someone's golf cart and saw such a beautiful walker, I had to ask her about it. I was curious if it was custom made because it was pink, and some of the bars were covered in a flowery print. She let me know it was a Nova walker, and I let her know it was the coolest walker I had ever seen. I looked it up, and found it is reasonably priced. Let's hope I don't ever need it, however, I was happy to learn there are options out there besides the typical aluminum colored walkers available at most pharmacies. I was selling a ring holder that I have had for over thirty years, and a customer picked it up, admired it and asked me if it was bisque. I had heard of the word, but had no idea what it means. I thought to myself, unfired clay? She commented, "it probably is, it feels like it," and proceeded to tell me why she really didn't need to buy it, but it reminded her of one she used to own.. I was eager to listen and by the time she was finished, I could really empathize with her and her situation in a number of different ways. I still don't know what bisque is, and if I tab out to look it up, I will forget what I am doing, get up from the computer, and be distracted for hours again. "Stay focused, stay focused." I would like to note, while people are talking to me, even though I am very interested in our interaction, my mind can hop all around, get stuck on a thought, or be overloaded with voices echoing in my head. While I'm listening, even if I hear and understand the words, some details often don’t get stored in memory. It takes a lot of energy and concentration to stay focused, and even more to remember the task is to stay focused.! Try listening to "stay focused" on repeat for any length of time. I just realized, I remind myself constantly to stay focused, yet the reminders always fade away within minutes. Back to the lady and the ring holder! Briefly, her story started off with her sharing with me how her husband's funeral was ruined and the Moose Lodge stepped up. She followed this with her tragic story of losing her husband during the pandemic. She took him to the ER back when no visitors were allowed inside—she never saw him again. Things can change that quickly. Now I am thinking, as my romantic brain will do, 'she doesn't need the ring holder because she no longer wears her ring, and it is stored away, treasured forever—aww, so sweet.' I was so wrong. She told me she didn't need the ring holder because a handyman working in her house stole her ring. She didn't buy it, and as she left, I wondered if she had support to help her through the darkest days. Immediately when I saw the next customer walking up the driveway, cheerful energy filled my entire space. I cautiously asked, do you mind if I ask you sort of a personal question, "are you artistic?". She said, "no." I was like, "really?? I was so sure you were into art!" She told me about doing arts and crafts, and a paint & body shop, and making jewelry. I blurted out, "I knew it! I knew you were an artist" She said, "Oh, I thought you asked if I was autistic." I told her I was and that is probably why I ask these questions. We laughed. I told her I loved artists and she agreed. By this time, I had started formulating the idea for my next blog post—this one—my participation in the yard sale and the people I met. Her story was moving—filled with both sorrow and encouragement, heartbreaking yet inspiring. She has six sisters and her only brother passed away. She was married, but lost her husband. She is the oldest in a set of triplets—if I got the math correct. She said they all talk to each other all the time. I let her know the coincidence of me having six brothers, although I didn't have any sisters, and I don't talk to my brothers, but we came from a similar size family. She told me how Gerber sponsored her family when she was born, as a triplet, with a year's supply of some baby items. She spoke of her mother turning down an opportunity for the triplets to be the Gerber baby. She learned the baby chosen instead by Gerber owns one of the local UPS stores There was no bitterness or jealousy, just a quiet curiosity about what might have been, for everyone, if her mother had said yes. I understood. We talked about work ethic and family values, hardships and compassion. After listening and being very intrigued, I gave her a card and asked if I could mention her story in my post I will be writing. I asked her if she would consider writing her own story for me to publish on this blog. Before she left, she made it a point to come all the way around the table to give me a hug. Until that point, I was oblivious to the fact that several people were now browsing the items on the driveway and in the garage. I really enjoyed our chat, and I hope she will consider sharing her story, here or elsewhere. After some of these encounters, I knew I had been given a gift. I may be too forward, I might be too curious, my mental illness may flare up in unexpected ways, I may talk too much, but my experiences, as well as God's guidance, have molded me into who I am today. I take every chance to grow and through pure faith and perseverance, I continue to work through any obstacles that may arise. Looking back, it was a great weekend—despite the fact that I would have loved to share my victory with someone. As I was cleaning up from the sale, I almost tore up some of my blog cards, where I had written prices on the back. I paused, realizing it would be better to toss them whole, in case someone might come across one, find my blog, and—be inspired, encouraged, and uplifted, or perhaps gain purpose, curiosity, or insight. Whether the purpose of this blog is to help me find financial relief and settle my thoughts, or to support others in their needs, I hope it reaches the right people, if it is God's will. Romans 12:13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

  • Halloween: Embracing Different Paths

For many, Halloween is a night of costumes, trick-or-treating, and seasonal fun. But for others, Halloween might not align with their beliefs, traditions, or understanding of the holiday’s origins—and that’s perfectly okay. Understanding the History Halloween has complex origins, with roots that trace back to ancient Celtic festivals like Samhain, a time when people celebrated the end of the harvest and prepared for the darker, colder months ahead. Over the centuries, Halloween blended with various religious and cultural influences, taking on different meanings for different people. Some see it as a secular holiday today, while others are more mindful of its history and potential conflicts with their beliefs. Choosing Your Own Path If Halloween doesn’t resonate with you, you’re not alone. It’s natural to hold traditions that reflect your own beliefs and values. You may choose to skip the festivities, avoid Halloween-themed gatherings, or use this time in a way that feels more meaningful to you, such as spending time with loved ones, engaging in other seasonal traditions, or even focusing on charitable activities that align with your values. Respecting Different Perspectives Everyone’s approach to Halloween—or any holiday, for that matter—is personal. Just as some people fully embrace Halloween’s spooky, playful side, others choose not to celebrate, finding meaning in other ways. For those who do celebrate, understanding why others might choose to sit it out can lead to more inclusivity and respect for one another’s choices. Creating New Traditions (or Honoring Existing Ones) If you prefer not to celebrate Halloween, you can make this time of year uniquely yours. Consider activities that give you joy and align with your principles, like autumn nature walks, family get-togethers, or simply embracing the fall season in your own way. Or, if you come from a tradition that recognizes this time as sacred or significant, you can use it as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, or connecting with your faith. Extending Understanding and Kindness At the heart of any holiday, there’s often a common thread—community, connection, and kindness. Whether you participate in Halloween or not, there’s always room to show understanding and respect for each other’s choices. Embracing diversity, even in holiday practices, is what makes our communities richer and more understanding. So, however you choose to spend this season, know that your choice is valid. And whether you’re a Halloween enthusiast or someone who sits this one out, we all play a part in making this time of year meaningful in our own way. Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

  • Presidential Election 2024

Edit: 6 November 2024 The election is over! Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump on winning the election to become the 47th President of the United States. When Donald Trump is sworn in as the 47th president on January 20, 2025, he will join Grover Cleveland in holding the unique distinction of serving two non-consecutive terms. Cleveland, who served as both the 22nd and 24th president, had been the only U.S. president to serve non-consecutively. Trump, as the 45th and 47th president, would stand alongside Cleveland in this rare achievement, marking a historic moment in the office of the presidency. The situation is quite similar in the cases of Grover Cleveland and Donald Trump: Grover Cleveland (Democrat) won the presidency in 1884 to become the 22nd president, lost re-election in 1888 to Benjamin Harrison (Republican), and then ran again in 1892 to win back the presidency and become the 24th president. Donald Trump (Republican) won the presidency in 2016 to become the 45th president, lost re-election in 2020 to Joe Biden (Democrat), and then campaigned again in 2024 to win the presidency to become the 47th president. In both cases, the pattern is very similar: both served a single term, lost their re-election bid, and then returned to the presidency after campaigning for a second, non-consecutive term. I amused myself when I found a place to put my voting sticker. There were two small holes by the workbench in my garage and, in the spirit of the campaign slogan, TRUMP WILL FIX IT, I decided to get a little creative. I took my presidential voting sticker and placed it over the holes, turning a simple fix into a statement. It may not be a permanent repair, but it’s a fun way to give the spot a new look while paying tribute to a campaign slogan that promised to make things right. Here’s the before and after—proof that sometimes, a little ingenuity can go a long way! Let's Make America Great Again! The Importance of Voting Voting is often viewed as a fundamental duty in a democratic society, as it allows citizens to influence their government directly. By voting, people have the power to shape policies and leaders that impact their lives and communities. Experts argue that each vote is an "equalizer," ensuring all voices contribute to decisions affecting the country, from economic policies to local funding priorities. Voter turnout also tends to drive political accountability, as elected officials must be responsive to the needs and demands of those who turn out to vote. Historically, people have fought hard to gain the right to vote, especially marginalized communities, underscoring how voting is both a privilege and a responsibility for each eligible voter. In many states, there are resources to help guide voters through the process, such as early voting and voting by mail, which makes participation more accessible. Ultimately, every vote contributes to the broader democratic process, shaping the direction of the country and holding elected officials accountable. Some people feel their individual votes don’t matter due to the Electoral College system, which allocates a set number of electoral votes to each state based on its population. In this system, a candidate wins all of a state's electoral votes by securing a majority of the popular vote in that state, which can make it seem like votes in states with a clear majority for one party don’t carry weight. Critics argue that this means voters in states with a predictable outcome, such as heavily Democratic or Republican states, may feel their votes are less impactful. However, supporters of the Electoral College contend that it helps balance the influence of populous states with less populous ones, ensuring that candidates consider the interests of all regions, not just those with larger populations. In the United States, various factors influence voters across all states. These factors can significantly affect voter turnout and engagement. For the most current and detailed information regarding voting in a specific state, including registration and voting methods, I recommend visiting CanIVote.org . Minimum Voting Age : The legal voting age in all states is 18 years. However, some states allow 17-year-olds to vote in primary elections if they will turn 18 by the general election. Voting Day : Federal elections occur on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. This consistent schedule helps voters know when to expect elections. Registration Requirements : Voter registration is required in all states, but the process and deadlines vary. Some states offer same-day registration, while others require registration weeks in advance. Voting Methods : Voters can typically choose from several methods, including in-person voting on Election Day, early voting, and absentee or mail-in voting. The availability and rules governing these methods differ from state to state. Voter ID Laws : Some states require voters to present identification at the polls, while others do not. The types of acceptable ID can vary widely. Voting Accessibility : Federal laws mandate that polling places be accessible to individuals with disabilities, and many states have provisions to assist voters who may need help due to language barriers or other issues. Donald J. Trump — 2024 Election — Make America Great Again Before Donald Trump officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, several other Republicans were already running or had announced their intentions. Notable candidates included former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Each of these candidates sought to present themselves as viable alternatives to Trump in the Republican primaries. Supporters of Donald Trump often highlight his focus on economic growth, with many pointing to his first-term policies that cut taxes and reduced regulations, which they argue led to low unemployment and economic expansion before the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump’s stance on issues like immigration and border security continues to resonate with many voters, especially those who feel that a strict immigration policy protects American jobs and resources. Additionally, his supporters often praise his “America First” foreign policy approach, claiming it emphasizes the nation's interests and bolsters the U.S.'s standing globally. His recent campaign rhetoric underscores a message of restoring economic stability and safeguarding American interests, which appeals to voters focused on national security and economic revival. Together, we can "Make America Great Again!," if Trump survives! An attempted assassination of Donald Trump occurred during an open-air rally on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, used an AR-15–style rifle, injuring Trump in his right ear and also killing one attendee while critically wounding two others. Secret Service agents neutralized Crooks at the scene. Trump, wounded but alert, appeared in photos raising his fist in the air, which gained significant attention on social media. Shortly after receiving treatment, he resumed his public appearances at the Republican National Convention, wearing a bandage on his ear. This incident led to strong political responses, including bipartisan calls for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, which she submitted shortly afterward. President Biden called for an independent review of Secret Service security protocols, and Congress advocated for enhanced security at all major political events in the lead-up to the election. Additional safety measures like bulletproof glass for outdoor rallies were subsequently implemented. On September 16, 2024, an incident at a Florida golf course involving former President Donald Trump raised serious security concerns. While Trump was golfing, there were reports of a possible assassination attempt when a series of loud noises caused Secret Service agents to quickly move in to protect him. Witnesses mentioned hearing distinct "pop pop" sounds as the agents surrounded Trump. Authorities quickly detained Ryan Routh, who was identified as the suspect. Routh, 58, had previously supported Trump but more recently had shown support for Biden and Vice President Harris. Investigators are working to determine any motives behind the incident, with the FBI leading the inquiry. Critics of former President Donald Trump often cite his divisive rhetoric and handling of key issues, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which they argue fueled misinformation and worsened public health outcomes. They also point to investigations into his business dealings and legal controversies as indicators of ethical concerns. Trump's critics argue that his foreign policy stances—such as the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and certain trade agreements—strained international alliances. Many also claim that his emphasis on cutting regulations and tax policies benefited the wealthy disproportionately, while neglecting environmental protections and widening income inequality . Donald Trump’s legal challenges are substantial, and they continue to be a concern as he campaigns. He faces serious allegations on multiple fronts, including federal charges related to the handling of classified documents and his actions around the 2020 election. Cases are ongoing, with some potentially delayed by appeals and complex legal questions. However, a recent immunity ruling by the Supreme Court has introduced questions around which charges can advance, particularly those connected to actions taken during his presidency. Thus, while some cases might conclude, others are likely to continue. Donald J Trump will bring on JD Vance as Vice President, if elected. JD Vance, a U.S. Senator from Ohio and author of Hillbilly Elegy , could appeal to voters with his background as a working-class advocate and his emphasis on populist and nationalist ideals. Vance’s stance on issues like reshoring American jobs and limiting foreign entanglements aligns closely with Trump’s policies, potentially helping to secure Midwest and Rust Belt voters. However, some question his limited political experience and the polarizing nature of his commentary on social and economic issues. Kamala Harris — Vice Presidency and Potential Presidency Prior to Harris's campaign, Joe Biden was running for re-election in 2024, but he made the decision to exit the race in July 2024. This led to Kamala Harris, his vice president, being nominated as the Democratic candidate for president. Her nomination process was rapid and marked by significant backing from key Democratic figures and grassroots support, particularly from Black women, who were determined to ensure her candidacy was recognized. Harris's public role grew leading up to Biden's exit, especially as she became a prominent voice on critical issues like abortion. After Biden's departure, she engaged extensively with party leaders to solidify her position as the nominee, emphasizing her unique qualifications and campaign message. This quick transition highlighted the party's support for her candidacy and marked a historic moment, as she became the first woman of color to lead a major political party's ticket Vice President Kamala Harris has been recognized for her efforts in leading initiatives on critical issues such as voting rights, healthcare access, and climate change. She has actively championed a strong economic recovery plan, supporting small businesses and investing in renewable energy, which has helped create jobs and reduce emissions. Harris has also pushed for equitable policies, addressing issues of racial injustice and supporting reforms in the criminal justice system. Many view her historic role as the first female, Black, and South Asian Vice President as a sign of progress and inclusivity, with her experience as a former senator and attorney general seen as assets in navigating complex policy discussions . Critics of Kamala Harris have expressed concerns about her time as Vice President, arguing that her administration's policies haven't adequately addressed key challenges, like inflation and border security. While Harris has promoted issues like voting rights and environmental justice, some critics feel her tenure lacks substantial accomplishments and that her record may indicate "more of the same" if she were to assume the presidency. Her opponents often emphasize that her approach aligns closely with the current administration’s agenda, which they feel has not met their expectations. Issues raised include perceived inaction on immigration reform and concerns over how the administration has managed economic pressures like inflation. If Kamala Harris is elected President, she will bring with her Tim Walz as Vice President. Tim Walz, Minnesota's governor, offers an experienced, moderate Democratic perspective with a focus on healthcare, education, and economic equality. His record on COVID-19 and support for working families may resonate with voters seeking a balanced, pragmatic leadership style. Walz's military background and bipartisanship could broaden appeal across ideological lines. However, his strict COVID-19 lockdown measures have sparked criticism, particularly among conservative voters, potentially impacting his standing in more traditionally conservative areas. Trump/Vance vs Harris/Walz In summary, the decision to vote on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 is an opportunity for Americans to weigh in on these candidates' policies and their vision for the country's future.  Even if you disagree with a candidate personally, you may still support certain policies they advocate for. Supporting a leader you don't vote for can demonstrate a commitment to the democratic process and the rule of law. It's about prioritizing the stability and functionality of government over personal disagreements. Trump’s supporters emphasize his prior economic record and national security focus, and question the effectiveness of Harris' role in the current administration. Harris' supporters often emphasize her progressive policies, while questioning Trump's integrity and previous actions during his presidency . Voting ensures that each perspective is represented and that the election outcome reflects the values and priorities of the populace. This contrast reflects the broader political divide as they advocate for their respective candidates in the lead-up to the election. My views align more closely with Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, and I urge you to vote in alignment with those ideals. Regardless of the election outcome, I encourage you to support the winner and respect the office they hold. Even if you experience a moment of uncertainty and vote for a candidate that doesn't match my preferences, I won’t hold that against you. Family and friendships matter far more than political divisions, so let’s prioritize those relationships as we engage in this electoral process. Proverbs 11:14 “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
